I'm not a morning person. This is especially true if I haven't slept well for over 2 weeks straight. So imagine my delight when all 3 of my kids were awake before 7 am and they were all in good moods. Usually my oldest is in a constant good mood, he's a morning person, but my girls are just two you never know what you'll get. Instead of complaining about not being able to attempt to get a little extra sleep we got up and going for the day. It is summer, but I have to run a house and that means chores for the kids. This morning we all knocked out a list of chores before breakfast and that allowed my kids to start playing by 9. This also meant I could focus on my own personal day to day list of what I need to accomplish all before noon.
Mondays can be productive. I'm not one to normally say that, especially with how today started out but that has been the case today. My middle child struggled through her entire year of 1st grade. She understood the concepts, but nothing was clicking. So instead of holding her back a grade we, with support from her school, have been working each day since summer began in some workbooks to help get her ready for school in the fall. Watching her go through the 10 or so pages we do a day I'm starting to realize something that I think her teacher and school overlooked, she's smart, she just lacks the confidence in herself. She knows the work and can do it. It is literally coming down to her own confidence in her abilities to do the work that is holding her back. If we keep up this work like we have been there is a huge chance she will be more than ready once school starts up in the fall. That is my goal at least. As her mom, I can't help but want her to succeed and watch her confidence build.
